Most venue payroll problems start in the set-up: the wrong award, the wrong classification, or penalty rates that were never configured. We check your payroll against the award that covers you and fix the settings, then help you keep it right as rates change.

What's included

  • Award set-up, usually the Hospitality Industry (General) Award or the Restaurant Industry Award
  • Classification checks for each employee
  • Penalty rates, casual loading, overtime and allowances configured
  • Single Touch Payroll reporting
  • Payday Super: super paid with each pay run and checked against the fund deadline
  • Annual wage review updates each July
  • Leave accruals and termination pays

Why it matters in hospitality

Wages are usually the biggest cost in a venue, and underpayments are costly to fix later. From 1 July 2026 super is also due each payday. See what changed in 2026 for the details and sources.

FAQs

Payroll and award questions

When do pay slips have to be given to staff?

Fair Work says pay slips must be issued "within one working day of pay day, even if an employee is on leave". They can be electronic or hard copy.

What changed in Single Touch Payroll from 1 July 2026?

You still lodge STP on or before each payday. For paydays from 1 July 2026, the ATO says each employee's qualifying earnings and superannuation liability must be included in STP reports, as year-to-date amounts. The ATO will still accept ordinary time earnings reporting until 30 June 2027.

What happens if super is paid late?

Late or unpaid super under Payday Super can attract the super guarantee charge. It is made up of the unpaid super, notional earnings (interest) on it, an administrative uplift and any choice loading. The ATO says the uplift is initially "60% of your total individual final super guarantee shortfalls", and it can be reduced, potentially to nil, for a good compliance history or a voluntary disclosure.

Can underpaying staff be a crime?

Yes. Fair Work says "From 1 January 2025, intentional underpayment of wages or entitlements can be a criminal offence." Small businesses that comply with the Voluntary Small Business Wage Compliance Code cannot be referred for criminal prosecution by the Fair Work Ombudsman.

How much did award rates rise in 2026?

The Fair Work Commission's Annual Wage Review 2026 increased modern award minimum rates by 4.75%, from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2026. The lowest classification levels rose by more, so check entry-level rates against your award's pay guide.
