Open the calculator →If you raise prices, how many covers can you lose and still be better off?
A price rise lifts the profit on every cover, because your food and drink cost per cover stays the same. That means you can afford to lose some covers before you are worse off. This shows how many.
This assumes your food and drink cost per cover stays the same in dollars after the rise, and works on prices ex GST, since GST is one-eleventh of what customers pay.

Book a discovery callWhat does each dish really cost you as a share of price?
Food cost % should be worked out on the price you keep, not the menu price. GST is one-eleventh of a GST-inclusive price, so a $44 dish leaves you $40. Using the full menu price makes food cost look lower than it is.
Plate cost is what the ingredients on the plate cost you, ex GST. Price at target is the menu price incl. GST that would bring the dish to your target food cost, rounded up.

Book a discovery callWhat will this week's roster cost, and is it on target?
Enter your forecast sales and each shift line. We add super, workers compensation and payroll tax, then compare total labour cost with your target.
Breakdown
Wages by day type
Super is applied to all wages as a cautious estimate. It may be lower if some hours, such as overtime, are not ordinary time earnings. Payroll tax is applied to wages plus super only as a rough guide, and only if you are over your state's threshold.

Book a discovery callHow many covers do you need to cover your costs?
Every cover leaves something after food, drink and other variable costs. Break-even is the number of covers it takes for that to pay your fixed costs for the week.

Book a discovery callPayroll tax in New South Wales
Payroll tax is a state and territory tax on wages above a threshold. Choose a state, enter wages, and we estimate the tax using that revenue office's published rates.
Grouped businesses (for example, through common ownership or shared staff) are taxed on their combined wages, and only one member can claim the threshold. Add each business in the group.

Book a discovery callQuestions about the calculators
How do I work out how many covers I need to break even?
Add up your fixed costs for the week, such as rent, wages and other overheads. Then work out what each cover leaves you after GST (if you are registered), food cost and other variable costs. Divide your fixed costs by that amount. The break-even calculator does this for you.
What is a dish's real food cost percentage?
It is the plate cost divided by the amount you keep from the menu price. If you are registered for GST, use the menu price without GST, not the full price the customer pays, or your food cost will look lower than it is. The dish margin calculator shows both figures side by side.
What should a roster cost include besides wages?
Super, workers compensation and, if your business is over your state's threshold, payroll tax. The roster cost calculator adds these to your wages and compares the total with your forecast sales.
